Boom & Smolder is an original marimba song by Jan Lynn Christensen dedicated to the boys of Marize Marimba Band 2020.
This is an intermediate level tune with an emphasis on learning to swing a variety of rhythms in 12/8. It is scored for five marimbas instead of seven as is often found in the U.S. marimba ensembles.
The Tenor has the lead melody in this piece playing a saucy swing tune. The two sopranos have running lines in both the high and low octaves. The bass provides a strong pulse with the baritone adding the rhythmic kick through syncopation.
The arrangement provides a good challenge through developing skill with tight entrances, clean drop outs and executing a tight ending.
